Don’t Wait for Retirement Ladies: Start Living Your Dream Life Today

Here's Why You Don’t Need to Wait for Retirement to Start Living Your Dream Life

For years, I told myself I’d start living fully “one day.” One day when I had more money. One day when the kids were grown. One day when I retired and finally had time to travel and breathe. Sound familiar?

This idea of postponing my happiness caused a lot of regret when I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer at just 33 years old.

We’ve been sold the idea that joy is something we earn now to experience later—after the career, after the responsibilities, after the grind. But here's the truth: you don’t need to wait for retirement to start living your dream life. You can begin right now.

🌪️ The Myth of “Later”

It’s so easy to fall into the trap of “someday.” It sounds responsible. It sounds safe. But often, it’s fear in disguise.

Fear of stepping outside our routines.
Fear of change.
Fear of being called selfish for choosing ourselves.

But here’s the thing: life isn’t waiting for you. There’s nothing magical that happens at retirement that suddenly makes your dream life easier. In fact, many women who reach retirement say, “I wish I’d started sooner.”  When I didn’t have declining health or mobility issues getting around, walking distances, and climbing flights of steps.

✨ Your Dream Life Doesn’t Have to Be Huge to Be Life-Changing

“Dream life” doesn’t mean yachts and luxury retreats (though it can!). Sometimes it’s as simple as:

  • A long weekend solo getaway
  • An overnight with a few hours to journal by the water if that’s where you can begin
  • Finally booking that weeklong travel retreat you keep dreaming about
  • Giving yourself permission to say yes to you

The dream begins when you choose yourself—not in some big, dramatic way, but in small, consistent ones.

🧭 The Power of Travel in Midlife

For women in their 40s, 50s, and beyond, travel isn’t just a break from routine—it’s a reconnection to who you are.

Solo travel gives you:

  • Space to reflect on where you’ve been, and what to prioritize next
  • Confidence in your decisions
  • A sense of independence beyond your roles as mother, wife, or caregiver

💬 You’re Not Too Old. You’re Not Too Late.

Let me say this loud and clear:
You’re not too old. You’re not too late.

In fact, you’re in the perfect season to create something incredible. You have:

  • Wisdom
  • Resilience
  • Clarity on what matters

That’s your superpower. Start using it now—not someday.

💰 But What About Money and Responsibilities?

You don’t need to drop everything to live more freely. Here’s how to start where you are:

  • Set a small travel savings goal
  • Use credit card points and travel hacks that I’ll teach you in our private coaching session
  • Explore off-peak times or nearby destinations that don't cost a lot to get to
  • Take a day or two for a personal retreat

Also, think about this: What is it costing you to keep waiting? Burnout, disconnection, and feeling stuck have a price, too.  How would you feel waking up in the hospital after a heart attack, or car accident? Regretful that you’ve put off living your life?

🌱 Start Where You Are

Maybe you’re not ready to book a flight tomorrow—but you can take one step today:

  • Look at your calendar and block off a long weekend (or overnight) just for you
  • Write down the places that make your heart beat a little faster. Bonus points if you order the Visitor’s Guide to be delivered to your place to start marking what you’re interested in.
  • Talk to a travel coach (Yes, that’s a thing! Someone like me who helps you go from curiosity to confidently booking!)

  • Just say “yes” to that tiny whisper inside that wants more

That whisper? It’s your dream life calling.
And you don’t have to wait until retirement to answer it.

🔁 Final Thought:

You’ve waited long enough. Start now. Start small. Just start.
You deserve regular freedom to explore your interests, feel freedom and fulfillment, and have fun before retirement—and your future self will thank you for saying yes today.
