Solo Travel for Women: Adventure in Vegas and Utah Resort Reflections

The Best of Both Worlds: A Solo Travel Escape from Las Vegas to Ivins, Utah
Hello, fellow female solo travelers! Whether you’re actively solo traveling seeking tips to take your trips from good to magical, or you’re wishing to add safe solo travel to your life, great to meet you! I'm Joy, your go-to guide for safe and successful solo travel—and today, I’m sharing one of my favorite solo adventures that blended the buzz of the big city with the serenity of the Southwest. If you're looking to travel solo but want a mix of excitement and relaxation, this one’s for you.
Let me take you on a journey that started with the calm, soulful embrace of Red Mountain Resort in Ivins, Utah and concluded with the electric energy of Las Vegas! And best of all, in addition to giving you a solo trip idea I’ve also added to this post extra tips on how to make your own solo travel experience more affordable and inspiring—just the way we like it!
Flying into Vegas: Direct Flight
I kicked off my trip by flying into Las Vegas, a city that offers endless options for solo travelers. Plus it was a direct flight so no layovers which can add a flight delay (or cancellation!) complicating your trip.
From City Sparkle to Canyon Calm
Then came the relaxing part of the journey: I boarded a shuttle from Vegas to St. George, Utah, and from there, took ground transportation into Ivins—home of Red Mountain Resort. This is the kind of transition that makes your soul exhale as you go from city to calm.
Researching Red Mountain Resort in advance of booking, I knew I wouldn’t need to leave again until my return trip. Everything is designed to help you slow down, reconnect, and soak in the moment.
Red Mountain Resort: My Personal Retreat
Located in the stunning red rock desert of Ivins, Utah, Red Mountain Resort is everything a solo traveler could hope for. The setting alone is worth the trip—but the experience? Even better.
I spent my days journaling, enjoying nourishing meals, and indulging in spa treatments that left me feeling brand new. There’s something magical about quiet mornings with a hot cup of tea and nothing on the schedule but “whatever brings you joy.”
I wanted to explore my surroundings and not just reflect, so some of my favorite moments included an evening scenic sunset hike—breathtaking doesn’t even begin to describe it—and an exhilarating e-bike ride through nearby Snow Canyon. The resort offers all kinds of daily activities (check their website to see what’s current!), so whether you’re looking for movement, mindfulness, or meaningful connection, you’ll find your perfect balance.
And yes, I even made s’mores by the fire chatting with a couple other female solo travelers—because solo travel should be sweet and soulful.
To get home I opted to go back to Vegas for that direct flight. But I didn’t want to just fly in/fly out of Vegas. I chose to spend an overnight in the city so I could experience a few key things—things I wanted to do!
Arriving during the week meant less hustle, better rates, and—bonus!—I was upgraded to a phenomenal suite. Solo travel tip: hotels often have availability during the week, and solo travelers can sometimes score suite upgrades because they’re easier to accommodate one person than groups with multiple rooms. Don’t be afraid to ask!
Before heading out of the city, I took time to explore the Vegas Strip (I could see The Fountains of Bellagio out of my hotel room suite!) and carved out a lengthy visit to the Mob Museum. It's a fascinating stop, especially if you love stories of history, culture, and a little intrigue. I really enjoyed my evening tour with Pink Jeep Tours. Here's a reel on Instagram showcasing some of my photos & video from this amazing trip.
Tips to Make Solo Travel Affordable
One of the questions I get most is: "How do you pay for solo travel?" Here’s the deal—it’s all about planning smart. Here are a few tips that often make my travels both dreamy and doable:
- Mid-week flights and stays: Cheaper and less crowded.
- Look for resort packages: Red Mountain often offers inclusive deals for accommodations, meals, and activities.
- Use reward points: Whether it's flights or hotels, those travel rewards add up. Don’t forget to utilize them.
- Split the trip experience: Blend a few city nights with a stay in a smaller area (usually inexpensive compared to big cities) to create variety and stretch your budget.
- Watch for last-minute upgrades: Ask at check-in, especially during off-peak times.
The Best of Both Worlds
This solo adventure truly gave me the best of both worlds: high-energy exploration in Vegas and deep, soulful restoration in Ivins. I moved at my own pace, explored what I loved, and recharged in a way that felt completely aligned with my spirit.
That’s what solo travel is all about—freedom, flexibility, and fun. And yes, this is one time when you can have it all.
