Why Every Woman Should Solo Travel Now

No Room for Regret: Why Women Can Live Fully Now Through Solo Travel
Hello beautiful souls, it’s Joy here—your friendly guide to safe and meaningful solo travel. Today, I want to talk about something deeper than destinations and packing lists. I want to talk about regret.
Let’s get real for a moment. If you found out today that your life would end very soon—how would you feel?
Would you feel proud of how you lived? Satisfied and at peace? Or would there be a quiet ache and a deep sadness… a list of places you didn’t go, dreams you didn’t chase, experiences you postponed for “someday”?
I’ve been there. I know that ache way too well painfully. And I’ve done something about it.
A Wake-Up Call I Never Asked For
At just 33 years old, I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. One day, I was planning an exciting move to pursue a big dream. The next, I was planning how to fight for my life.
During that season, something unexpected happened. Beyond the fear and exhaustion…I felt regret. I realized I had spent so much time waiting. Waiting to travel until I had more time. Waiting to say yes until I had more money. Waiting to really live until life seemed more stable.
But the truth is—there’s never a perfect time. And none of us are promised tomorrow. We are all a car accident, heart attack, or diagnosis away from a very different life.
Remission…and a New Mission
By the grace of God and the power of modern medicine, I achieved remission. And with that new lease on life came a new mission: to live fully now. To stop waiting. To stop saving my dreams for retirement. And to start experiencing life while I still can—with joy, intention, and courage.
For me, that meant adding more solo travel.
It didn’t start big. I didn’t jet off to Europe first thing (though I did get to Italy with some time). I began with simple, intentional choices—weekend getaways, short solo retreats, and experiences that fed my soul. And guess what? I made it work on a budget. Because the true richness of life isn’t about how much you spend—it’s about how much you savor.
Solo Travel Isn’t About Being Alone. It’s About Being Alive.
There’s a common myth that solo travel is lonely. But I’ve found it to be the exact opposite. It’s empowering. It’s freeing. It’s a chance to reconnect with yourself in ways daily life rarely allows.
Every solo trip reminds me that I’m capable. That I deserve joy. That life is for living—now.
And I want that for you too.
Imagine This...
Imagine you’re sitting by a fire, making s’mores under the stars, with no distractions and no demands. You’ve just finished a sunset hike through red rock canyons and tomorrow, you’re pampering yourself with a spa day.
That was me—at Red Mountain Resort in Ivins, Utah. I flew into Las Vegas for the buzz and energy of the Strip, then took ground transportation to the peaceful desert town of Ivins. There, I found rest, reflection, and rejuvenation in the most magical setting.
That trip reminded me: we can blend excitement and serenity. Adventure and stillness. We don’t have to choose. We just have to go.
How to Start Living Fully—Even on a Budget
I know what you might be thinking: “Joy, this sounds amazing, but I don’t have the time or money.”
I hear you. And I promise, you can make it happen. Here’s how:
- Start small: A solo day trip, a weekend getaway, or a quiet retreat within driving distance still counts.
- Travel mid-week: You’ll often find cheaper flights and hotel deals—and fewer crowds.
- Use travel rewards: Credit card points and airline miles can take you further than you think.
- Explore printed or online travel guides and visitor bureaus: They often have discounts, coupons, and insider tips.
- Choose quality over quantity: One intentional trip a year can be way more powerful than five rushed ones.
The Real Question
So let me ask you again: If you found out today that your life would end very soon …would you have regrets?
Not just about travel, but about putting yourself last. About putting everyone else’s needs and wants first all the time. About not pursuing joy. About letting fear or finances or “maybe later” keep you from living fully now.
If the answer is yes, it’s not too late to rewrite the story.
Your next chapter can begin today.
