Finally, No One Wants Anything From You: Why Solo Travel Is the Ultimate Gift to Yourself

Have you ever had a day where every text, every email, and every "Mom?" or "Babe?" felt like the world was pulling at you from all directions? Sometimes you hear that voice calling for you from another room in the house, and you catch yourself cringing a bit.  You know what I mean. Women—especially caregivers, partners, parents, and professionals—are often the glue holding everything (and everyone) together.

But let me ask you something.

When was the last time you got to be the one who didn’t have to do a single thing for anyone else?

Enter solo travel for women. Not just a getaway, but a glorious pause button on everyone else’s needs, and a green light on yours.

The Secret Solo Travelers Don’t Always Say Out Loud…

It’s not just the freedom to pick the restaurant or sleep in without guilt (though yes, that’s amazing). The real magic of solo travel is that for once, no one wants anything from you.

You’re not managing the group itinerary. You’re not negotiating whose turn it is to pick dinner. You’re not fielding work questions or loading the dishwasher one more time before heading out.

You’re just…you.

You get to wake up and ask: What do I want to do today?

And then you go do it.

No compromising. No negotiations. No emotional labor. Just you and your curiosity, joyfully exploring the destination you picked!

You’re Allowed to Want Things, Too

Sometimes as women, we fall into the trap of thinking that putting ourselves first is selfish or indulgent. But let’s reframe that.

Choosing solo travel doesn’t mean you’re escaping your life (Ok, maybe on some of those overnight or weekend getaways you are escaping!) —but it also means you’re reclaiming yourself inside it.

There’s nothing selfish about sipping espresso quietly at a café, hiking a misty trail in Oregon, or watching the waves roll in on a Florida beach while feeling fully present, fully peaceful, and fully you.

That stillness and freedom? That is the you you’re uncovering again underneath all the titles: mom, boss, partner, fixer, friend, volunteer.

She’s still in there. She desperately wants to be seen and heard.  And solo travel helps you find her again.  Helps you hear her voice.

But… Is It Safe? Is It Lonely?

It’s okay to have these questions. A lot of women do.

The truth is: solo travel doesn’t have to be lonely, and with the right tools and tips, safe solo travel is absolutely doable.

There are ways to plan trips that keep you feeling confident, connected, and completely at ease—whether it’s your first time or your fifteenth. And no, you don’t have to "rough it" to do it right. My solo travel is a time for me to indulge—no roughing it here.  But the beauty of your trip is, finally, you get to do what feels right for you.  With no one else complaining because it isn’t what they wanted to do or where they want to be.

I’ve taken everything I’ve learned from traveling solo safely and confidently for decades now and turned it into easy-to-follow guidance. You don’t have to figure this all out alone.

You're Not Waiting Anymore

One of the biggest regrets I hear from women I coach privately is this: “I waited too long.”

Waited for someone to go with them.
Waited for retirement.
Waited for more money, fewer responsibilities, or "the right time."

But life has shown us all—especially in the past few years—that “someday” is not promised.  As a stage 4 young adult cancer survivor, I’m painfully aware of just how fast our health can change.  We’re all a heart attack, cancer diagnosis, or car accident away from a completely different life.  Our health can be gone that fast.

Solo travel is how you stop waiting and start living.

Because guess what? The version of you that feels lit up, adventurous, fulfilled, and curious? She’s not gone. She’s just been busy.

Let’s change that.

It’s Your Turn

If your life lately has felt like one long to-do list of other people’s needs, you deserve to carve out space for your own needs.

Solo travel isn’t about going far—it’s about coming back to yourself.

It’s your turn to see what life looks like when you’re the one choosing the place, setting the schedule, and chasing joy on your own terms.

You don’t need permission.

You just need a plan—and I’ve got you.
